President George W. Bush has officially designated striped bass and red drum as protected gamefish in federal waters, thereby protecting the future of the two species.
The president’s Executive Order received support from numerous fishing industry leaders, including representatives from Boone Bait Company, Loomis, Boater’s World, Navico, Big Rock Sports, and others.
“Recreational anglers are among this nation’s most ardent conservationists. By supporting this Executive Order, we show our commitment to conserving our nation’s resources and protecting our heritage,” said American Sportfishing Association president Mike Nussman.
