Orvis Claims that the Frequent Flier Rod series represents the most affordable, high-quality, high-performance travel rods on the market today. Frankly, we have to give them credit for it.

Less than 18″ collapsed, these 7 piece rods, are the travel rods you always wanted but couldn’t afford. Made to Orvis standards, featuring aluminum oxide guides and hard chrome tip top, anodized aluminum reel seats and AA grade cork and warrantee’s you’d expect from Orvis.

As with most multi-piece travel rods, you expect to give up more casting power and overall control with each additional section. And, yes there is some degradation of both, but not much in our opinion, and certainly not enough to make a difference when on the road. In an effort to test various conditions, we cast Huge (#2,#4 Salmonflies in Oregon on the Deschutes, with 3x leader , #10 Green Drakes on the Metolius and tiny #18 caddis on 7x leader on several tight Main streams and were able to present the flies well in each case.

The best news however is the price, from $195-$225 these rods, which range from a 4-9 weights, finally put a quality travel rod into the hands of the comman man.
