Opinions on these rods, as I hear they are being discontinued, and are being discount 25%. Can anyone comment on type of action, medium fast, or more full flex? Any one sweet rod in the series, or are they outstanding across the range? Also see they come in 2/3/4 pieces. May want to pick one up. Thanks

I have at least cast about the entire line, fished most of it.
The ones I've kept are:
796-4
690-4
586-4
389-4 (the 5pc is sweet too)
ordering a 363-3... maybe :-)
The dynamic properties of the Z-Axis have certainly grabbed some attention... even those of us who are long time in the church of the SP and SLT see that light. I hope Sage is looking to replace the SLT, when they do, with something of a more dedicated soft presentation taper, something to compete with the LT and G2.

They should have kept the LL in their line. It's a sweetheart.

I'd have to agree with Pete on the Sage LL series! The Sage SLT is a medium fast action rod IMHO. I liked the 590SLT & 690SLT. Just my $0.02 worth. Good-luck!

If we're going to talk legacy, SPL/SPLCA was a greater loss IMO :-)

Petethe fisherman,
I have the Sage 279LL, 379LL-3pc, 4711LL, & 590LL. The 279LL is the sweetest small brushy stream dry fly rod I've fished with but the 379LL is my sweetest, overall, go to rod for stream fishing! Good-choices!

Dreaber,
Welcome to this site. Did you have a question or comment about the Sage LL rods? Just curious.

This thread is a perfect example of the lack of moderation on this board... post 1 asks a question, post 2 answers from that posters perspective, post 3 some yahoo goes completely off topic and the next 6 posts, which include a moderator, go off into left field with the yahoo from post 3.
So, JASTROUT... what did you end up doing?

Um... yeah, I guess so, but it an affectionate kinda way... besides, that's a compliment on that side of the river

I'll cut you a break for setting it strait regarding the SPL/CA, those were were kick ass rods.
Did you end up grabbing one of the 363-3 SLT's? I eyeballed that one too... let it slide, then they came back with that same config in a TXL... too many carrots to taste...
I have cast/fished/owned most of the SLT's as well, and eventually weeded it down to the 586-4 and 690-4. I also liked some of the 2 and 3 wts, never warmed up to the 4wts much, and didn't care for the 7 and 8 wts. My 690 has seen a lot of rugged service, I think there is only one original section remaining

If it's a compliment here, it's a blessing from Mother T. over there, you yahoo!
Nah, waited too long to pull the trigger, nothing left at the factory... TXL in that config is on the short list. The 7wt is a nice rod, bit slower than the SP, but it has it's thang. I tried the 282, too much of a wet noodle.

I agree, the 282 kinda fell off the slow end of the general taper characteristics, but it was buttery smooth. The 3pc thing seems to be what keeps me away from those 363 configs... bought another makers 366-4 for the packability.

Wow, I have not gone to this forum recently, as it got alittle too intense, but in private messages with several members(GRN, Peter, etc), I got some outstanding advice, and I am very thankful. I ended up with my first Sage, a ZXL 8'6" 4 wght, and it fits perfectly in my world of Winston WT and Scott G-2 rods. Now I have the opportunity for 40% off any T&T rod or graphite blank. Thinking about a Paradigm rod, but I am willing to listen to offers if anyone wants to buy one of this great line of rods as the coupon has no sales tax, only $10 for shipping. Talking and buying gear is kind of cool, when one can get opinions from fly fisherman from all over the world.

JAS,
Glad your digging the ZXL, I've got a 480-4 demo coming that I'm going to fish some before taking the dive. This years rod budget has been pretty well whacked by a 6126-4 Z-Axis spey (and reel) and a 390-4 Z-Axis for pond work.
I have not handled many T&T rods that have really gotten me too excited (the glass rods are pretty nice though), but my exposure has been limited. I have talked to 2 dealers who both have concerns for the future of the company, neither of which put in pre-season orders to replenish inventory.
