Hello All,
I was wondering what your favorite water is for trout fishing? Holes, ripples, runs, stillwater, seams, foamlines, and so on.... also your least favorite?
I know you love to fish them all just as I do, but if you had to pick just one kind of water which would it be????
I love the slicks that are found at the tail end of runs... I can spend a lot of time working them on bigger rivers, fish all sorts of flies, and catch many fish and often different species of fish all in the same general area.... I have found both opportunistic and selective feeders which keeps everything fun and challanging.
The waters I like the least and find most troublesome are smaller pockets in fast moving water. I find them very difficult to present the fly where it needs to be and in the manner it needs to be presented... It seems to be a lot of effort to get it all right for only an instant before drag gets the better of the situation. I'd say this is my least productive waters.
How 'bout you???

Since I love fishing small streams I like fishing pools and runs the most. Pocket water is also fun to fish in small streams too! I least like fishing under overhanging branches! That's why I still catch more trees than trout!

Good topic, CG!

I probably catch more fish in the faster water at the heads of pools than anywhere else, but I really do enjoy hiking up a small stream and dropping a fly in the pocket water along the way.

I like pocket water and riffles, but at this point will take anything. I've just got to go fishing!!!

Good post CG.
I like the slicks but also have a weakness for the dropoff right at a point in a lake.

I grew up fishing small streams and plunge pools. I can't seem to break the habit. In a small stream I want to fish upstream and work all of the water. Tail water and seams have been the best producers.

Im kinda partial to pocket water, undercuts and small pools myself. Then that seems to be where the elusive brookies I enjoy like to hide out here in the Rocky Mt West.

Au Sable "Holy Water". I grew up fishing it with my dad. Never really understood how special it really is until a few years ago. You can just feel the history standing on the banks waiting for a late spinner fall. Soon I will share it with my son......
