Full Version: which velocity?

I've got a Sage VPS Light 586-3. I'm looking at the Lamson Velocity 1.5 or 2? 1.5 is for 4,5 weight while 2 is for 5,6.

Does it really matter?
SoCalFF
I don't think it really matters. The only difference is going to be the weight of each reel ande you'll be able to put more backing on the larger reel. Other than that it's a matter of personal preferences. Good-luck!
Jake
If you are going to be using it for trout, you really won't need any great amount of backing. I would suggest going with the smaller reel.

I have a V1.5... actually this is my second. the first, bought from a friend, was smooth & nice enough to give up a Ross G-1... then it was gone.
Bought a second, brand new. problems from the time it came out of the box. The Lamson/Waterworks customer service was less than friendly or smooth. I ended up fixing it myself due to their "attitude" about customer service. This was a manufacturer's defect. They even admitted it wasn't unusual to hear of this problem (drag ineffective & caused spooling).
Nah, don't like those folks.
The reel works ok now that I fixed the problem.

I'd be interested to know if others had similar problems?

I have had a V1 for 2yrs and never had a problem with it, train stopping drag and its sealed. A little over kill but a great reel I agree with Jake go with the smaller reel and save the wieght smile.gif

Yes. Had two 1.5's and four spools that were all bought together. Two of the spools had to be used on a specific reel or else the drag did not work at all, and even failed sometimes on the reels that they "worked" on. Lamson's CS is a horror show, will never own any of their product again.

Thanks for the info!

I decided on a Ross Rhythm instead.
Jake
The Ross is a fine choice, many members here swear by them. I'm suprised to hear the negative comments on Lamson customer service. ohmy.gif
The folks at Waterworks were extremely helpful and courteous to me, but that was some years ago before they bought Lamson. smile.gif

I think you're going to love the Ross Reel. Their customer service is second to none. Good choice!

I also have a rythum 1 and love it on my 3 wt

Look up customer service in the dictionary...
you'll find ROSS.
the best customer service (they'll do more than you ask of them)
