Yeh, I know, Simms Guide Wear or the new G3 are the best on the planet. And if I guided or fished more than a couple times a month, I MIGHT save up and bite the bullet. But I don't do either, and money IS an object (as opposed to money is no object). I own some Orvis Clearwater breathables that are currently at the factory for evaluation of a chronic leak in the stockingfoot. They have served me well for four years with little or no problem other than the leak in the foot. If Orvis says tough luck, buy new waders, what waders should I buy... for under $200?

In your price range I'd very highly recommend the Simms Lightweight Waders. Here are the specs of these waders:
* Made with 3-layer Gore-TexrŽ ImmersionŽ Technology fabric
* Reinforced lamination in lower leg for puncture protection
* Simms Blackfoot 3mm high-density neoprene stockingfeet with right/left foot design
* Flip-out chest pocket
* DEET and saltwater resistant
* Repair kit and nylon wading belt included
* Every pair manufactured and tested in Bozeman, Montana
Good-luck!

I would look at any type of Cabela's Breathables. The Gold Medal, Dry Plus, stuff like that. THey've gotten good reviews and if you don't fish every day, they'll hold up incredibly.

I've got to agree with flyfishpj. If you've found the $$, grab the simms, but I know a lot of guys using the Cabelas that love them and use them pretty hard.

Had the same problem of chronic leaking with Orvis Clearwaters. Bought a pair of Dan Bailey waders at Mike Lawson's shop and they have been terrific. A lot more comfortable, more build, and some great features as well. I think they sell for $199 but you can get them for less with shop discounts or sales.

do the simms lightweights have builtin gravel guards and can they be worn waist high with opposable buckles to wrap around and click into each other? i might be in the market for new waders this season.

Eric,
The Simms Lightweights do not have built in gravel guards but they can be worn as a waist high with buckles that click together.
