My understanding is the blanks are the same but cosmetics different for the Sage LL rods and the VPS-Ls. Would parallel models, like the 490-3 in both lines, cast, fish and feel the same?

You are correct in the differences between the LL series and the VPS-light series of Sage rods are the components. The blanks are exactly the same. I've been told that the cast just about the same if not the same. But I've never actually cast both side by side. BTW I love my Sage LL series rods, 279, 379-3pc, 4711, & 590. I'm still looking for the 389-3pc to finish my collection.

i have the 389-3 vps-lt and cast it next to the LL 389, in my opinion they are the same by action, i like the finish better on the LL though, just differ in color, blank is the same, both have Sage's good finish.
if you want it all, go for LL, if not , the vps-lt is easier to find
on ebay they go for about:
389-3vps-lt $225-$275
389-3 or 4 LL $ 375 to 450 depending on state

but you might get lucky

good luck on finding one
