I've been looking at buying a pair of breathable waders and besides the various questions on that topic I would like to know the proper undergarments when wearing breathables. For example fleece pants, what type of sock to wear, what not to wear etc.

During warmer weather I'll just wear my regular pants. During cold weather I'll wear my Waterworks Heavyweight Underwader Wear Bottoms. If it's real cold I'll put on a pair of thisk fleece pants over the bottoms. As for my feet, I'll wear a pair or two of wool socks, simms fleece socks, or a combination of both, depending on the weather. But I'll starting to look real closely at the gore-tex style socks.

Fleece is good. Nylon also. In the winter I wear nylon long johns and fleece lined socks (a nylon inner sock would be great) then I wear fleece bibs over the underwear. I also have fleece pants, but like the bibs for more pockets. However in the summer I wear Sylk scrubbs. Wear cotton you are going to be wet.

blink.gif For weather 65 to 80, a pair of fleece pants and shirt, or just fleece pants and a cotton under shirt and a regular shirt. For temps 60 to 30, a pair of polypropylene, followed by a pair of fleece and another pair of fleece. On the feet, a pair of poly anklets, a pair of fleece socks and then a pair of wool or heavy Genius socks. ohmy.gif Seems like alot, but you can always take off something if you are too warm. If its wet out I usually wear a Goretex jacket. Truthfully, I have never been cold, (the body that is). fingers are another problem especially if you use figerless gloves. It takes a while to warm the tips up. sad.gif Wearing these combinations I have been able to fish in temps from 85 to 25 degrees. Never wear cotton under the waders, they get too sticky. wink.gif Silver Doc

Going commando is a good option in the summer, but chafing and getting in or out of the waders on the roadside when the mosquitos are biting can be problematic.

If it is hot, I wear nylon pants under the waders. As is gets colder, I wear combinations of synthetic underwear, the nylon pants, and fleece pants depending upon the weather. I wear Smart Wool socks all year, while augmenting the socks with thin synthetic liner socks or second pair of socks depending upon conditions.
