I am looking for a backup fly rod and was wondering if Martin is a good company to look at. They seem cheap but look really nice. Thanks!

depends... are you planning to use it much?
or will it be an emergency back up or leave it in the car in case you find some decent water rod?
Price should not be the ONLY criteria... you should cast (not just do the wiggle flex thing) the rod with appropriate line to see if you will like the rod.

Oh yeah, that's just my humble (?) opinion

I started out flyfishing with an old Martin Composite rod and reel. It was an 8' 3-piece 6 wt outfit that was on sale for under $40. That brings back alot of memories. If Martin doesn't make a better rod then it did make then I'd suggest you take a look at either the Cabela's Three Forks Comboor the Cabela's Fly Fishing Combo. Both outfits are under $100. I've heard good things about the Three Forks. I have two of the Cabela's Fly Fishing Combo Youth Outfits that my daughters learned how to fish with. Good-luck!
