I received a 10 year old TMF rod a couple of weeks ago. The male portion of the spigot ferrule was loose (I suppose shipping pushed affected it). I contacted Winston to find out what type of glue/epoxy to use... I was told:
"there is a chance that the rod could break at the ferrule if this is done incorrectly, SEND IT TO US & WE WILL REPAIR IT & SHIP IT BACK TO YOU, FREE OF CHARGE"
Less than 2 weeks later I am fondling this wonderful beautiful fly rod......
These people are amazing... they build a quality product & take responsibility for that product.

That Twin Bridges crew is amazing. A couple of years ago a few of us toured the factory. To watch the painstaking effort it takes Mr. Loomis (that was the guys name!) to fit those spiggot ferrules makes appreciation of those road that much better.
Did you get a taste of the action and feel of that T.M.F. before shipping it back? If a plastic rod can be considered a classic that is indeed one of them!

Yeah Jack, I did... if there was a graphite rod that was as close to bamboo as you could make it... this is it.
Ol' Tom knew what he was doing in designing this rod.

Peter,
glad to hear that. was concerned that customer service and winston quality was heading in the wrong direction. I'm sure you'll enjoy the rod , it's a sweet one.Only had a chance to fish a TMF a little bit and really don't remember if there was much difference between that and the IM6 that I have.
Best,
Steve

It is an IM6... another reason to go old. The taper is specific to this rod, as designed by Mr. Morgan, if my facts are correct.
Their customer service (have had to use that previously) is still great. Easy to contact, great communication, timely return. PLUS their insistence to do the repair & have it done correctly.
That's the way it should be.

That's strange for Winston. Because I bought a LT5 demo rod from a flyshop that doesn't exist anymore, I'm not considered the original owner although it cost a bundle. I broke a tip a few years ago. Cost me $70. Last year I had to send it back to have the ferrule replaced ( I think it was a little small in the first place- the butt and second section would touch and come apart on a cast.)Can't remember off the top of my head how much that was. Maybe they're coming down to earth now. Glad to they took care of you. biggrin.gif

I had a tip replaced on an LT last spring... $85 +$15 return shipping. I think they wanted something like $35 total to repair ferrule & return. After 2 emails back saying I thought I could do it my ownself... they said send, we'll do it right & you will enjoy the rod for years to come.
Ross is like that with their reels...
