Greenriver,

This is a good topic for discussion so I pulled it from the other post where it appeared to be lost among all the other hoopla...

I have cast a T&T LPS 9' 5wt 2pc and a Scott SAS (now the A2) 9' 5wt 3pc.

Of the two I prefer the LPS. Cast them with SA Ultra 3 WF line (a general purpose line). The SAS didn't seem to wake up until the line was 20' beyond the tip and then it seemed to cast easily. The LPS seemed to wake up with only 5' of line beyond the tip and went the same distance as the SAS and just as easily.

To my eyes the LPS is a prettier rod. rolleyes.gif

Someone else posted here that they liked the SAS but used it a lot for weighted nymphs.

I like a rod that feels like it is loading with only an inch of line out beyond the tip... or one that can cast the leader when the line isn't yet beyond the tip.

Neither of these rods is this... but the LPS is much closer to it than the SAS so it gets my vote.

My .02,

CG

Hi Greenriver...

I agree with CycleGuy 110%.
If you want deftness and sensitivity - the LPS is the right rod. If you want athleticism, the SAS is the better bet to please you.

i cast my leader on my vps lt389 just fine... wink.gif

I have two LPS models
the 8'6" 5 weight
&
the 8' 4weight
the 4 weight has easily become my favorite rod. delicate enough to present a size 20 dry or (on EXTREMELY rare occasions) a size 10 weighted nymph...
& above all wink.gif :
it's one pretty rod.
The SAS is the starter rod from Scott...
now if you were to compare the LPS to the Scott G series you'd find some striking similarities.

I had the SAS yrs ago and don't remember it being anywhere near as nice as any rod in the T&T LPS series. had the 7'6" 4wt and still have an LPS 5 wt,one of my favorite rods that I will never get rid of.
Best,

Since I've only casted an SAS, I can't really comment on the other...but, so far, I really like the feel of the SAS...casts my 5wt DT line like a dream...at least up to 55-60'...anything beyond that, and it's hopeless...

I've cast both. LPS vs. Alpha 2? Not even close. As Later, Peter already stated; the SAS was Scott's original "budget" rod. The LPS was always a premium offering. Besides price, actions are different. I agree with CG; the LPS has a flexible tip that allows for close-up fishing. The SAS is next to useless in the same situations. The SAS reminds me of Loomis' GL3... You've got to step backwards if your target's "only" 20 feet away. Powell's Legacy Light series was similar to the LPS. I've owned and fished the LPS 8'6 #3 and #5 for a seven year span in which they were my one-two choice. I still have and use the 9'0" #5 and #6 in 3pc. Both are good rods. The 9'0" #6 is a really great rod for out west and it's my "keeper" of the LPS rods I've fished.
Huib#&*%chap mentioned a Sage product. VPS Lt., the spin-off from the Sage LL. Definitely softer. I'd group it with T&T's Paradigm; Winston's WT; Orvis Superfine and the Scott G.
That could be a good topic?
