Has anyone out there cast the zero g especially the 8 weight?I have a t3 10ft 7wt I put an 8 weight line on it for Atlantics casts like a dream.Curious to find out how the zero g handles thanks wink.gif

I casted the Zero 5 wt but did not fish it. A very nice rod ,light with sensitive tip and very nice to cast. Like the BIIX, it doesn't feel like a"fast " rod ,although I guess that's the action that is promoted,. that said, I think it paled in comparison to the BIIX. If the 0 was 300 .00 I'd buy one in a heartbeat. At 600 + , no way.
Best,
Steve

You are right about the 600.00 that's alot of cash try it in Canadian. On the other hand I have a Sage slt got it a month ago 9ft 8wt never cast waiting for Atlantic Salmon season June long wait.Would this be considered a fast rod.I am 50 years old I don't react as quickly as I used to there are a lot of us.This is one reason I like the medium flex rods. Then again I guess you don't have to be that fast casting to lying salmon as in comparison to racing bonefish . blink.gif

I own probably one of every rod Orvis put out in the last 4 years (except the entry level rods) I do remember when the T 3 first came out. WOW! what a rod. I would truly love to try the new Zero. I did notice though, and probably cause it is new, that in the new catalog that they don't have a 3 wt yet. and in the 5wt in a four pc they only have 6.5 mid flex and 9.5 or 10.0 tip flex, which I guess is a popular flex but owning so many orvis rods I like the 7.5 mid. Fast enough to roll cast or cast in the wind, but nice for dries also. I want to check it out and compare it to the Matrix or the T 3.

Hello All,

I waggled a 9' 5wt not to long ago. I thought the rod was a bit stiffer than I care for but now I see that there are different tip flexes available. I still don't understand the reel seat and thought the tip to be a little on the fat side.

My first impressions of the rod, seeing it advertised in a magazine, was that it ain't going to be around long at the price they are asking for it... and that doesn't mean they are going to be flying off the shelf. I would be surprised if it turns out to be a big seller. I think Winston knew better with the BIIx and kept the price under $600. The T&T Paradigm is a paradigm for expensive rods.

The reel seat in the new catalog looks like either the up lock like what was on the T3, except they got smart and made the reel seat a little longer and added a ring. The older T3 the end cap which was also the up lock would come completely off which made it scary in open water.
Or, it is the ring up lock like on their bamboo and the one ounce rods, which is very good. Push the ring up and it stays there, where the screw type you can loosen after awhile.
Thanks for the input though, now I gotta go see one for myself.
By the way, they are a little more expensive than the T3 and Orvis sold alot of them. Ego thing maybe, but they are good rods.

pelcrk,

which flex did you cast in ther Zero G
McCfly
Got an Orvis catalog the other day. The Zero G was designed to compete with the B2X. Thus the boron in the butt section giving it a similar action.
