Was in a "regular" tackle store this morning and spotted a 25yd spool of a fluro named "TripleFish". Was marked $2.99 and "7-lb. test" so I bought it to try out on some 'Gills.
So I went to a golf course pond this evening (pond was absolutely glassy), tied on a 10-ft segment and hitched it to a #8 popper.
Wasn't long before I noticed that, if I waited a little extra longer than usual, the fluro would sink between the popper and the line/leader connection. Must have just accidebtally the right popper bulk and leader density to do that. The cool thing about it is I could wiggle (very gently) the line and the popper would twitch but, since the leader was underwater, there was no other surface disturbance at all between the popper and the line/leader connection which was roughly a distance of 10-ft. So - no distraction from the leader right on top of the fish to spook it away from the popper!
Just thought that little stealth tidbit was pretty cool to know.
Best All,
