Could anyone compare this three fluorocarbons (fluoroflexplus, froghari fc and grandmax); I mean knot strenght, enlongation, stiffness...

Which is the best for dry fly fishing, and for nymph?
What experience do you have with them in terms of fishing?
What are the better knots for each of them?

Thanks.

Here's one test :

though I prefer tatest that use lab equipment and actual strain gages (I'm in that business!)

trouthunter82,
Why f/c for dries??? Mono floats betteer, f/c sinks. I peasonally use frog hair for all my dry fly fishing. For time to time I will use F/C for nymphing. Just wondering! Best fishes Mike

FC for dries *because* it sinks and shows no refracted shadows. The density is minorly greater than mono and in no way threatening to pull flies under. In fact, it still floats nearly as well as mono, there just isnt' enough weight to it to overcome surface tension of the water. So my point may be moot, but rhetoric about it sinking seems to be technically true but unrealistic in practice. My take, anyway.

Ok, in fact, using fluorocarbon in the last part of my leader allows me to avoid undesirable shadows in the water surface, and more important "hangs up" this last part of the leader, avoiding in some way the microdragging (it's useful, I promise you).

To mbbishop:
Thanks for this superreply, but I think that you don't understand me.
What I want you say, is to use FC, !!!onlyˇˇˇ in the last part of my leader, the tippet (40 cm aprox.) attached to the fly, not using the whole leader made of fluorocarbon. I'm agree with you that it would be prohibitive, for a good drift of the fly.
On the other hand, you say " Frog hair, IMHO, is superior to anything out there in the mono world. But FC now seems to be FC and one make's not much better than the other's".
What do you know about Frog Hair, do you really think that is the best tippet? Why? Have you seen a lab test with diferent tippets compared?
And what are you saying, that FLUOROFLEX PLUS or SEAGUAR GRANDMAX, is the same that other worst fluorocarbons? huh.gif
Go ahead, mbbishop (and Jackster1), post the lab results.

In all cases, thanks for all mbbishop and regards from Spain. wink.gif

Trouthunter82,
I just want to say,"if thats what you like to use use it. There is no right or wrong! Just what works for you! I have worked with all the leader and tippet materials. I PERSONALLY use Frog hair mono over anything else because I like it. that does not mean it is the end all, it means I like it. Like what I wrote in the leader formula's I published and what frog hair uses in their kit " This works for me! feel free to change it around. I also tried a combo leader of mono and f/c. The best combo I came up with was a F/C butt and mid section with a mono tippet for nymphing. It gave the nymph a natural drift in the feeding zone. But I could go on and on. It boils down to USE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!
