Full Version: "Dean's Lightning"

I have an old rod handed down to me from my wife's grandfather, who was an avid angler in northern Michigan. The rod is most unusual, 2pc. 6'9" half cane (like) from the cork to just shy of the ferule with about 4' of fiberglass to the tip. The flex is mid to tip. There is no Wt. designation but "Dean's Lightning" is hand written on the fiberglass. I imagine it's a custom job from a local rod maker, not sure on the age but it has to be 30+ years. I'm not sure what line weight to use I imagine on the lighter side.

With this info, any suggestions?

thanks,

samuel

Hi Sam...

If you already have flylines and/or can borrow someone's for a few minutes, I would start with trying a 4-wgt. and move up the line-wgt. scale until it seems easy to cast. Might try some DTs if available but WFs will work.

Best guess, smile.gif
