I am an absolute novice.I have a rod that I bought from Sears over 30 years ago.The line is that old also.I went into a Bass Master Pro shop to buy a new line.The clerk said he needed the rod so he could match the line to it.The rod was 350 miles away.What line do I choose for this ancient rod.Owned by an ancient novice fly fisherman.

depends on the weight rod what line you will need. Wait until you get home and see if the rod is labeled what weight it is. If not labeled, take it to an outfitter who can approximate the line weight or even try out a few lines.
