Hello All,
I am wondering which you tend to favor and why?
I use both but tend to lean toward sidearm casting when possible. I think for comfort and to help keep the tip of the rod out of the sight window. However, I think I am able to hit my target more frequently with overhead casts. Anyone else feel that they are more accurate with overhead casts than with sidearm casts?

Personally my accuracy is about the same with both but side arm proper works better when theres more probability of catching stuff overhead and behind with the loop.
I imagine I could probably alleviate the tree-bush problem doing a roll cast but havent got that technique down yet...

I side arm cast most of the time. To me it has the most natural feel. It is also beneficial in windy conditions. The only times I overhead cast is when I am backed up to mangroves and have to get the backcast over them, or if there is a strong wind at my back and I want to kite my forward cast.
As far as accuracy, the overhead cast is generally more accurate because, if you are off a little on your release, the line will still go in the same direction, only the distance is affected. On a side are cast, with a more horizontal movement, if you are off on you're release it affects both distance and direction.

in between.... kind of at about a 45deg angle or lower. especially useful on streams to keep line under branches. also useful to roll cast at an angle to keep from hooking myself.
only overhead when i have room, not too windy, and looking for distance.

I normaly cast a little less than true vertical and side arm for ducking rhodo's.

side arm .unfortunately I think I developed some bad habits , as a result, that compromise an already " casting challenged " form . I'm not pretty but I can manage to catch a few fish.

I fish using both an over head and side arm cast. I use side arm mostly for getting under tree limbs along side the stream.

I think we were talking about casting style, not mental condition.

Well, here's my 11.4 cents worth. When sight fishing, overhead for accuracy. For bushes, side arm or roll. For into-the-wind casting, overhead.
