Full Version: Practice casting in a pool

Hi all,

Has anyone ever tried practice casting into a swimming pool? Is the cholorine bad for the flyline?

I'm wondering because there are some nice big pools/fountains near where I live. It would be great if I can practice casting there, however, the water is heavily chlorinated...

Is there any advantage of casting into a pool of water (with no fish) rather than practicing on grass?

Thanks.

EDIT: Oops wrong forum area... sorry. Could the moderator please delete this post. I'll repost it in the appropriate forum. Sorry again.

You will definately be able to practice roll casting and water-hauling better on the water. As for the effects of chlorine... I have no idea.

I would gladly delete this topic but need to ask, where would you put it instead?

clean line before and after and keep practicing - if all goes bad with that line save it for practice - the chlorine may have a bigger effect on the fish in the wild that the lines life span - if it quits floating after cleaning blame the chlorine and use it for an intemediate if you ever need one. that is what i use my worn out floaters for with heavy clousers and dumb stripers - not a problem, plan on owning a few lines eventually anyhow
