blink.gif i was at the monthly T.U. meeting in hawaii and one of the guys came up with a 8# weight 10' graphite rod from Scientific Angler for $40.00 and they have more rods then that. over here most of the fishing is for bone fish but there are some pecock bass here and some trout on some of the outer islands. and by the by the guy was telling me the most of the rods made in China and Korea cost a round $10.00 so all you math wizzs do the math on how much we are getting ripped off for putting a name on the rods. hope everyone has good summer of fly fishing. greg cool.gif

I have found some great buys there, but you have to look through a lot of stuff to find what fits and such. I've found them to be good at taking returns and overall good people. And yes, I am usually a little on the thrifty side. On a different note, I love my Winston and Sage rods. blink.gif

I've traded at the Post for more than a decade with good luck. While they seem to have gotten into the weekly mailer and email habit (and this can be annoying), their website is set up to search and browse easily and quickly by a number of parameters such as manufacture and size. Since I've been doing this stuff for years and have several rooms filled with basic kit, I can browse calmly now for deals and steals as they come bobbing down the stream. Over the years, I have found and bought much good kit from the Post. I would say that between a quarter and a third of my outdoor clothing and toys have come from the Post as excellent namebrand closeouts, mostly for less than half of MSRP. Their customer service has always been good to me and returns are also handled well. Now, if I could only find a way to heat the house with their USPS junkmail . . . rolleyes.gif

I've been buying from them off & on. They'll occasionally get a fly rod or two (had Hardy close outs recently). What I like best are the socks. No kidding. I've yet to see a "wading sock" but they've good socks. If anyone sees this, please email me: 300 denier Polartec socks. I've a couple pair with the Acorn label that are great and I'd like to get a few more.

and you can buy a Yugo or a Kia or you can buy a Toyota or a Ford... prices are higher but do you get a better performance, longer life, more enjoyable ride???
I looked at an Okuma set up my friend bought... $50 for the rod reel backing line & leader AND it was all strung & ready... FIFTY BUCKS! it looked good enough but:
the rod blank had MANY imperfections, the reel had poor tension settings for the drag, the line was a short starter line (how long will this float?)BUT for a beginner??? not too bad, if he breaks it, decides fly fishing ain't for him, or eventually as a spare setup....
You do, after all, mostly get what you pay for... or in the words of the wonderful WC Fields: "you can't cheat an honest man"
