I would like to know why everyone that wants a Ross reel always wants the Pre 98 Gunnison?

Have spent some years around these forums and haven't ever noticed a preference for pre 98 Gunnisons. I do know that spools are not compatible between pre & post 98 models. Maybe someone is just trying to match up with what they already have???

My best friend had a pre-98 Gunnison, something like a 94'ish model and it had the most god awful clicker that I have ever heard on a reel.
I used to make him fish far away from me just so I wouldn't have to hear him working that thing.

I could be wrong......but if the pre98's are considered better than the post models , keep it away from me!

I had a pre-`98 G2 and threw it away.
Honest. Tossed it into the trash can!
I had cleaned out the bed of my truck after a fishing trip and had a bunch of crap to pitch in plastic shopping bags. The reel was in a bag too. Garbage guy's got it!
Bummed me out for a week! Considered therapy . Truth; it was OK but nothing compared to the Ross Evolution.
I now have a pair of Evolutions. The G2 and old matte black C1 (which I SOLD) aren't missed.
