Anyone know a Mike Donovan of Hawthorne New Jersey, wildtrout@hotmail.com? A few weeks ago he listed several fiahing items on flyshop.com. We bought one, sent a check, he cashed it... then disappeared(phone disconnected). No rod received after 3+ weeks. Any similar experiences?

he went by "evening rise " about a yr or so ago. Check back thru the pages and you'll see some past history here. I don't know if the admins. here can help you or not.

big dummie's advise about calling the authorities (police) helped me a few years back with a non shipped ebay purchase - this was in a small ohio town, and the police went to the guy's house within an hour, and i had my decoy 4days later -

it's a pity that a few people put the fear of online purchasing into a lot of us - if i do, i use poastal money orders, as it then becomes a federal fraud situation -

I can understand how you feel right now. I had that happen to me a few years back with a guy named Jon Hashimoto aka islandpunker@aol.com, mrwinstongreen@yahoo.com, matukajon@aol.com. I won a Sage 486LL rod for $175. I sent him a check and he informed me that he received it and was sending the rod in the mail.. Well, after a while I realized I got ripped off! I posted my delimma on this board and a couple of members sent me info on Mr. Hashimoto and who to contact from the police department in his town. I received my money back with an apology from his mother. I felt sorry that she had to pay for his mistakes! But I was glad I got my money back. As stated earlier, contact the local authorities and tell them your situation. You may not get anything back but at least you'll give yourself a chance to get it back. Luckily, 99.9% of the people on e-bay and for sale sits are good, honest, people. Good-luck!

Mike Donovan is a thief and liar. I can't believe this guy is at it again. Call the local police immediately! He stole a bunch of money from members of this board including me a while ago. He has some nerve showing himself again on this board. If you have his current address please provide it to me, I may pay him a visit. Private email me if you want details on his past. Don't believe any of his sob stories, file a police report and take him to court if possible.

if the person who is saying they didn't get the rod i supposedly sold to them tells me which rod they are talking about and emails me a mailing address i will close the issue once and for all here....the last rod i mailed out was a st croix 8'6"4wt 4pce to an address in either texas or florida i think...it was an ultra legend....email me at wildtrout@hotmail.com the proper info...if i cannot locate the rod through the post office i will make good with $$$ or something of equal value....

an email has been sent to the person w/the issue w/the st croix rod i offered either a $$$ refund or his choice of a brand new battenkill 5/6 w/spare spool and new lines,a hardy princess w/spare spool in exc cond or a brand new diamondback diamondglass 7'6" 3wt rod all worth more than the $150 paid for the missing rod...i simply asked that whatever he decides on to make good on this,he posts here that the issue has been settled so everyone here is happy as well...i am just waiting for his response to this...thank you everyone....

Recall this particular Donovan ran an ad in Flyshop. I responded and purchased a rod. Sent him a check which he cashed. No rod ever received. Followup emails ignored over several weeks. Phone no. shown as disconnceted.

On advice from others, I tried this bulletin board for the first time. I have not used a bulletin board before. I thought all replies would flo thru to my email. Several did, and I replied. So I thought I was in touch and current. Until this AM I did not know that there were 20 +/- other replies! Read them all-- you're a pretty amazing bunch.

A few days after posting on April 17, Donovan contacted me via email, says he wanted the matter resolved, and offered three equipment choices. Thought about it overnite, selected one, and emailed him. He mailed it to me. Arrived yesterday. Had a question for him via email on the equipment. He answered this am. So in preparing to reply to him and those who had contacted me, I found all these other postings.

I also found his frantic numerous bulletin comments. No refund was ever offered by him. I did not really want the replacement equipment, but it was better than an extended ordeal. I was certainly timely with him. It was also proper not to involve others in the details of trying to resolve the matter while it was underway.

As stated, this particular matter with Donovan is mutually resolved. Thank you, one and all.

Hey Mike Donovan since you are trying to make things right would you mind sending me the Sage rod and CFO reel that I paid you $325 for about a year and a half ago and never received. Better yet send me your address and I'll come and pick it up.

The only reason that I originally posted was because I became very upset to see that Mike Donovan (last known address by me was Hackensack, NJ) may have pulled the same thing that he did with me and others. I realize that this transction occurred some time ago and I did move on. My only intent was to try and prevent anyone else from suffering a loss. As I tried to explain privately I have proof of payment for this transaction and email correspondence with Mike Donovan (Hackensack, NJ) and several others who were scammed. The scam originated on this (old) board. I requested that Mr. Donovan send me the Sage rod and CFO reel that I never received because he seemed to want to make ammends for his past. I don't understand what proof you want me to post here? I used my paypal account so I have a permanent record of the payment. I can forward any email correspondence that I had with Mr. Donovan to anyone who wants it. Mike Donovan privately requested my contact information and details of the transaction, which I provided. Maybe he will make it right and maybe not. If the Mike Donovan that I had this transaction with feels that I libeled him in any way, his attorney can contact me and I will gladly provide hard copy documents regarding this transaction.

[The emails you received re Donaovan seem very over the top. If you have a legit claim talk about it and pursue it. Some seem to think it is an easy process.
