Does anyone use the Orvis Super Strong nylon leaders? What is your opinion of them? I ordered a couple today because Orvis has a buy two-two packs and get one two pack free. The sale is going on until the end of the month. I have used them in the past and they seem to be pretty good leaders.

PALongbow,
I would like to put in my view on leaders. We spend alot of money on flies, lines, rods, reels , waders, ect. But we are always looking for a deal on the most critical part of our rig. Our $600 rod and $500 reel with a $55 line does us no good ( but it makes use look good ) if we do not have a good leader holding the fly to the rod! I have been using many differnt leaders for many years. I have tied my own, I have bought every leader on the market. I now use FROG HAIR LEADERS!!!! Why, #1 They present my dry fly properly, with a slight "s" curve in the leader or curls what ever you want to call it . I get a natural drift! #2 the elastisity of the leader. I want my leader to have streatch to it so it will keep the hook in the fishes mouth. The leader can react faster than I can. TRY ONE. Buy a 7 1/2' leader in 2 sizes heavier than what you use and 18" of frog hair tippet. You will save money on leaders and catch more fish!

I was using Rio leaders then went to the Orvis Super Strong when I changed flyshops. I like the Orvis leaders and tippet just as well as the Rio. I use 9' leaders than add tippet to that for my 9' 5WT. If I'm going to fish 5X or 6X then I use a 4X leader and add my tippet. If I'm going wet with 3X or 4X tippet then I use a 2X leader and add my tippet. This set up works for me, it may not work for some. I've put some pretty good pressure on nice fish and I haven't had any leader failures that I can remember, well, at least that weren't MY fault. ohmy.gif wink.gif

I've been using the Orvis super strong leaders for years. And they are my favorite. I've never run into a bad batch either as I have with some other brands. Very good quality leaders.
