So, as time goes on I find most surely I'm a little better than a novice at about everything there is to do, no matter how much experience I seem to have accumulated. Question is whats the best knot to tie your line to your leader? Barrel knot? or some kind of loop knot?

your ideas are greatly appreciated.

Do a search on the net, or just check your line and/or leader booklets for instructions. I think this is the best one for most all fishing situations, and better for starters (don´t know if You´re one).

There´s is also a way to do it with no nail, some anglers call it nailles knot, but I can´t find it in the web right now.

Then, with time and experience, loop-to-loop get their place in your agenda.

Keep in mind that it is your leader being attached to your flyline (not the other way around). With this perspective you´ll understand the casting advantages of this knot, compared to loops.

I attach a foot long hank of mono or Amnesia from the end of my line with a nail knot. At the end of the mono is a double surgeon's loop (more reliable than the "perfection"). I use "loop to loop" connections. I build my leaders to include the Amnesia/mono hank as part of the formula. Enough `bout me...
If you decide on a loopless connection you'll chew up a line fast. >>>>>Suggestion; tie in the foot or so of mono off the end of your line and connect your leaders to it with a double surgeon's knot. You may be able to fit in a hanful of leader changes this way without having to snip your line. wink.gif
