In about five years, what new products are there on the market?
A rod that adapts to your casting. A display on it tells you, "your
casting style is a bit aggressive, I will become stiffer, please give me
one minute".

A reel that gives you some information , such as the the temprature
of the water, and has a built-in GPS navigator and a walkie- talkie?

Does the development of new, specialized lines continue;maybe
manufacturers will claim; the tide effects your fishing more than
you think of, donīt use an ordinary line, use... wink.gif IMHO, Iīm a bit sceptical here.

Making predictions for the future, are, as we all know, hard!
In five years, I hope that I still use my Winston BIIx rod, my Lamson
Litespeed reel, but I may have changed for a new flyline! cool.gif

Will flyrods still be manufactured in the US? I really hope so!

Is there any need to make longer casts with a flyrod?

Do you have a specific wish for a new product, unavailable today?
Flycasting machines, will be ignored,by me at least, and by all of
you, for sure! smile.gif

Magnolia,

Ok i'll take a stab at it....

As natural resources become more depleted, fly fishing will become more of a sport of tournament casting and specialized competitions.

As the resources deplete so will the companies, R&D, quality, innovation and so on, leaving only small pockets of specialized product...... for example....ummm, you mentioned lines.... lets say SA will put out a line specific for tournament casting and really not for fishing at all.

In efforts to preserve what few fisheries are left, government regulations may make fly rods useless relics that really have no purpose other than becoming yesteryear collectables and house ornaments and some mysterious connection to a past way of life. dry.gif

In a nutshell,

Here is another stab at it....

If high tech is going to be integrated into the fly fishing industry it will be in the form of a fish..............

such high tech electronic fish will be released into the water by the angler and then will have to be tricked into taking the fly (of course if you are not able to outsmart your electronc high tech fish on any given day you will have an automatic retrieve signal so you can always get the fish back). These fish will be available in all species and all sizes so the angler has ample opportunity to fish for trout, bass, pike, steelhead and so on.

Groups of anglers will then meet at ponds at the local park for social fishing get togethers and the opportunity to retrieve other anglers' electronic fishes. (See gas is going to be so outrageous that people aren't going to commute far..... and the local pond will still be around since it is the municipalities water source. And, golf at this time will have to be played on barren ground since there is no water for grass, and because of it, there will be a huge influx into the electronic fishing industry and electronic fishing will be the new rage and the new center for which business deals revolve around, and there will be electronic fishing retailers everywhere).

That's kinda how I see it... what are you guys seeing????

I hope I die before that ever happens, no offense but if that is the way fly fishing is headed call dr. kavorkian wink.gif

Pay to fish! This way the rich folks that don't know how to fish very well can have all the best water stocked to the gills. Kind of like trickle down economics. Then they can brag about how they hooked some dumb ol' pellet eater with the help of their personal fishing guide or casting instructor (just in case it was the guide's day off). The rest of us can tie their flies for them. As gear goes, they'll go retro. Bamboo for everybody. Trouble tying on a fly...that's what the guide's for unless it's their day off and the hired fly tyer will do the knot work...etc.

CykleGuy,
with all respect, I hope you strained your vision a little? smile.gif

In the near future, I donīt think we will have a rod that talks
to us saying, "your presentations are less than perfect",or,"direct your cast 20 degrees to the left and make your cast 5 yards longer".
Anyone who wants that? Please raise your hands! Letīs see, only
one does..., the man with the white hat, thanks god, he isnīt a member.

Anyone who wants a rod that keep on saying "your presentatons are in fact perfect , Sir? Maybe I ,on these days when nothing works
out! wink.gif But I want an on-off switch, as I want to turn the voice off
on these splendid days when everything works just fine rolleyes.gif i.e., in my case, about twice a year! cool.gif

Seriously, in the long run, the market and our demand dictate,
I will put my two cents on, that rods are still made out of graphite,
or splitcane,or why not a combination of these materials,(in Sweden, there used to be, in fact, a rod with a graphite butt section, while the rest of the blank is made out of splitcane, it was called Rackelhanen, donīt know if they are still available, casting such a rod ,was surely
different from everything else I have experienced).

Graphite rods may be made a little bit stronger, to stand some abuse better. And we will still be swearing, when our casts go wrong or when we miss that take! biggrin.gif

you may be right, why do we get so many Viagra spam. They might have seen our casting? But where do we feed the rods, in the butt-section or in the top section. I direct this question to Dr BD, no,
itīs not ment to be offencive,heīs imagination impresses upon
a dull Swede like me! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
BD;the sun is shining and we are going fising! smile.gif

I formulate the question somewhat more clearly:
In your opinion, does flyrods taking medicine, like Viagra or sedative
ones, really pay off? wink.gif If the answer is yes, how do you distribute
the medicine?Oral? blink.gif By spraying them with a solution? wink.gif
Any adverese effects ever been noted?
You are all invited to answer this seriously ment question! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
But excuse me, if I pay the greatest attention to any answer from
Dr BD.
Disclaimer, I donīt try to be offencive against anyone, itīs only
my sick humor!
Now Iīm going fishing, for pike this time!
Greetings from Sweden, were the sun happens to shine! cool.gif
