Mr Fogerty,
you seem to know more about me than I do!

The Internet seems to be a place where some people like you wait for an opportunity to share there negative sentiments whenever anything remotely near their hate object appear in their imaginative minds.
What´s the difference if we bring food or go to the very nearby restaurant when we go to the nearest place where salmon or sea trout can be caught and this place is just below a power plant dam and a place that is so much wasted by "civilization" that we mostly regard this bit of the river as a place to practice two-handed rod casting at a stream with the possible bonus to catch one fish or another?
"Take a break for lunch in a restaurant when fishing? In all the years I have been fishing, I have never taken a break for lunch in a restaurant when fishing! Wherever it is that you go fishing, I wouldn't be interested in visiting."
Congratulations to your decision and may everybody follow your vise decision...

(But I thought for a while that grown up men can decide for them self´s how they want to live, eat or fish). Heard the word tolerance, mister?
"Who in their right mind (other than you) would want to go fishing with McDonald's just down the river and probably a Walmart next to it for you to buy a few tasty snacks to enjoy in your penthouse suite that you rented for the trip".
Just stupidity as the restaurant is at the fishing camp where many fishermen live and this camp is located at the riverside. Thus, if I bring some food from home and eat it in the vicinity of the restaurant I am a "real fisherman" but if I step inside the restaurant I am a lost soul, funny...

Walmart? Mister! I live in Sweden and there´s no Walmart in our country, and for McDonalds which for sure is resident (but not where I fish) I never eat there.
I rather visit the north of Norway where we never go to a restaurant when fishing but it´s about 800 miles from here.

The other place is about 50 miles from our town.
No, I don´t have a physiotherapist. I discuss health matters with my doctor and not in public.
BTW I own two tents and have been on trips to waste areas like Tierra del Fuego, riding horses where no luxury was found.
The topic was about reels and as I do some casting tuition, I want to have some cheaper but still good gear to lend. In addition I want to be able to recommend gear that is cheaper than I use. I now have allowed you to waste my time enough.
Thus!
Back to the subject. I think that there is an increased tendency to focus on design as in my opinion most reels are good enough (only with a few exceptions) when we talk trout fishing. Marketing with focus on the design issue may not be to our advantage though, as functional gear can look out of date and urge some of us to buy this years model.
There is a amazing speed at which new rods and reels are being introduced to the market, but many of us doubt that it´s about genuine improvements, rather more so about cosmetics. And in the end, last years models are being sold with discounted prices as they "have to be inferior." Perhapes there is no way around this as it´s inherent in the market economy; the manufacturers have to present new models or the wouldn´t be competitive. This race is of course supported by the fly fishing magazines as well. And even buy us.
