Just a poll to see if nay one users a rod as heavy as a 10wt. If so what are you targeting with it? I have used 10wts for tarpon, but that about all.

A 10 wt. also works as a light end GT rod ( although I always use a 12 ), it's a good choice for some of the heavier sinking lines while Striper fishing, and is the rod of choice for Permit fishing in the Keys.

Musky in Minnesota, Dorado in Loreto, False Albacore in North Carolina, Permit in the Keys, coho salmon in Alaska, Roosterfish in Baja...

I have one I use for Tarpon and Permit. I'd like to use it for a little surf fishing if I could get away. I do agree that the better idea - for the number of days a year that I use it - might be to borrow or rent one rather than invest the $$ in the purchase, but, Oh well.... :~)

I use my Winston BIIx 10 primarily for Permit. Have caught some smaller tarpon on it.

I have two ten weights. Here are some fish that I targeted them with: Tarpon, Dorado, Trevally, Roosterfish, King Salmon, Skipjack Tuna, and Jack Crevalle.

I use it for Bones when it is blowing too hard for an 8 weight. I have two: Cabela's Stowaway and Loomis 10/11 megataper. I'm taking the 7 piece in a suitcase to Belize for a trip which will have incidental fishing thrown in. It is a nice progressive action rod tossing a 10 wt. Bermuda taper. I will be on a reef rather than the flats, so I will be targeting whatever will bite and presume that I will have enough rod to handle it.
