has anyone seen this new tippet?
http://www.rioproducts.com/product.php?recKey=137 anyone tried it yet? or heard anything about it? it's even more expensive than flourocarbon - 8.95 for 20 yards. this tippet has a very very high strength to diameter ratio - 5x is 10lb test! but, i have one question; how would you guys attach this tippet to a leader? i mean not how to attach it, but what to? if you take a normal 5x leader and tie a surgeons knot or loop or whatever you do to attach your leader to tippet in the end of it, and put some of this tippet on, it wouldn't make any difference in line strength. the line would only be as strong as the connection to this tippet or the 5x regular mono or flourocarbon leader. would you just cut the tippet part off of the leader and just have a short and stout leader and then put on the tippet? would that be sacrificing delicacy? or would you have to use a big 2x leader or something? maybe a furled leader?

Yes, Ive seen it and was very disappointed. First, its black, not clear.
Second, I was told its braided Kevlar, which gives it its strength.
Third, its ridiculously expensive.
I am completely puzzled by this product. With its black opaque color, it makes no sense to have such high strength/thickness ratio as "tippet" if its the first thing the fish sees after gaining interest in your fly.

I'm not sure what Rio is thinking with this one? They do recommend it for nymphing. They do say it's harder to hold knots with it.
I want the tippet to be the weak link in the system. Who wants to break off the leader?
