Newbie from Jourdanton, TX, New guy Options

Hi,

I am new to the forum but not to fishing. I have wanted to take up fly fishing for many years and finally bought my first setup. Orvis Battenkill 7/8 & Pflueger Purist fly rod. I will upgrade the rod at a later date, and will probably use this one as a back-up. Like a really needed more fishing equipment & another expensive hobby! Oh well, couldn’t resist. I just wanted to get started without having to spend a whole lot of money at first.

I primarily do most of my fishing from my Kayak, Malibu X-Factor. I really love being out on my kayak and have always wanted a fly combo at hand.

I have been reading the fly-fishing forums, watching u-tube videos and absorbing as much information as possible. I live in the San Antonio, area and luckily for me have access to a lot of great water including being about 2 hours from the gulf and a couple of lakes about 30 miles away from me with monster fresh water Reds & Stripers. I am 45 minutes from the Guadalupe River if I want to target rainbow trout & Guadalupe Bass, 30 minutes from the Frio River and the white bass are getting ready to run. Bass, crappie and catfish all around me. So you get the picture. Plus the weather down here lets us fish year around. This is a great forum and I will be getting as much info as possible from it.
