Hello,
Do any of you have an older Powell model SSL (I believe that stands for Signature Series Light) or model SS (Signature Series)? Or ever fished one? I recall casting one years ago at a fly shop, and it was either a 9' 4wt or 9' 3wt. It seems it was a very smooth, medium action rod, with a beautiful, deep reddish brown blank, but that was probably ~ 15 years ago. Anyway, I just bought an 8' 4wt Powell SSL on evilbay, am really looking forward to this rod! As if I need another 4wt....but I know it will be a blast to fish on smaller to mid-sized waters. Please let me know if you have any feedback on this model. Thanks! -Tom |

All are in the medium to light medium fast category. These rods rival some of the best known rods available, such as the Scott G series, and the Sage Light Line series. The great thing about the Powell SSL is that if you can be patient, they appear on Ebay a few times a year, and that sell in the low $100.00 range. These are truely some fine rods, from back in the day when Powell still made some of the best rods in the business. Hope this was of some help. |
