- Description:
Attach tying thread to the hook slightly behind hook eye and lay down a base of thread to a point just above the hook barb.
Select a few pheasant tail fibers and tie them in at this point. The tail length should be about as long as the body of the fly. Wrap the the thread forward to the point where the thorax is to begin, binding the butts of the tail fibers securely to the hook.
Tie in the copper ribbing wire on top of the hook and bind it down by wrapping the thread rearward to the point where the tail was tied in.
Tie in a few pheasant tail fibers by the tips and advance the thread to the front of the abdomen area.
Wrap the pheasant tail fibers around the hook forming an even body.
Tie off the fibers and counter wind the copper wire forward forming evenly spaced segments.
Tie off the wire and cut or break off the excess.
Tie in several pheasant tail fibers by the butts in the thorax area. These will be pulled forward to form the wingcase and the legs. They should be tied in with the tips facing the hook bend and they should tied in to lay flat with the fibers laying side be side. They should be just long enough to be pulled forward over the thorax and then pulled back to reach the hook point.
Tie in several peacock herls in the thorax area and wind forward to form a fairly robust thorax. tie off and clip the excess.
Pull the pheasant tail fibers forward over the peacock herl thorax to form a wingcase. Take several tight turns of thread to lock the wingcase in place and then divide the fibers in two bunches. Pull the fibers to the rear, one bunch on each side of the fly and wind the thread back over them to keep them properly positioned.
Complete the head with a whip finish.
