Gold Ribbed Hares Ear

  • Resource Types: Nymphs
  • Equipment Types: Nymphs
  • Brands: Nymphs
  • Description:

Start your thread and wrap the length of the hook shank. Optional: Cut a 3 to 4 lenth of lead wire, wrap it around the center 2/3 of the hook shank and secure with numerous wraps of thread.

Select a few barbs of a lemon woodduck flank feather and tie in at the rear of the hook. Attach a 4 piece of fine oval gold tinsel.

From a hare’s mask cut some light and dark mottled fur from around the base of the ears and mix together for your dubbing blend.

Apply a small amount of dubbing to your waxed thread and wrap an abdomen over the rear 60 percent of the hook shank.

Reverse wrap the tinsel over the abdomen in wide, open turns. Secure the tinsel and trim away excess.

Attach the material selected for a wingcase. This can be a wing quill segment of a speckled turkey or natural goose, or a flashback material like crystal flash or flashabou.

Apply a slightly heavier amount of dubbing to form the thorax.

Pull the wingpad material tightly over the top of the thorax. Tie down at the head.

Cut away all excess material, wrap a head, tie off, and apply head cement.

Using a dubbing needle or a dubbing teaser, puck out some of the fur from the thorax. This will represent the legs of the nymph.
