- Description:
Start thread near rear of hook. Stack small amount of elk hair for tail. Tie in with tips facing rearward.
Stack some more elk hair and measure so that it is twice the length of the body or hookshank. With the tips faceing toward the rear, tie in over the rear 50% or 60% of the body. Keep the hair on the top of the hook.
Wrap thread tightly forward forming body. Then fold the elk hair over the body, making it cover the top half of the body, like a shell. If you measured right, the tips of the elk hair shouldn’t be too long to form upright divided wings.
Form upright divided wings with the elk hair that now is facing forward. Tie in hackle, first one, and then the other, making sure to leave room to form a head and whip finish. Wrap the hackle first in back, then in between, and then in front of the upright wings formed by the elk hair. It gives it a really buggy appearance.,This fly floats great and is super productive during almost any dry fly hatch if you have the right size and color. The biggest drawback of this fly is that they take a while to tie. Cast it out upstream and let it drift down along eddylines or by rocks and other obstructions. Can be used with a dropper and is sometimes an effective attractor pattern.
