- Description:
Attach thread about middle of hook shank for tying in wings.
Select two hackle tips about the same size and hold them so they flare out a little. This is how you will put them on the hook.
Tie them in with the tips facing the eye. Secure them with several wraps of thread and pull them upright.
Make several wraps in front of the wings to keep them upright.
Spiral the thread to the bend of the hook and take some fibers of grizzly and brown hackle about the length of the hook shank and tie in for the tail.
Tie in the stripped peacock herl. It helps if you dip the herl in a glass of water to moisten it up so it will not be as fragile. Wrap the herl in a tight spiral toward the wings to form the body. Be sure to leave enough room for the hackle. Tie off the herl and snip excess.
Tie in both the brown and grizzly hackle behind the wings. Snip off excess butt of feather. Make three wraps behind wing and in front with both hackles. Tie it off and snip excess.
Whip finish and cement.
