  • Description:

Attach thread and spiral back to bend of hook. Tie in moose hair.

Tie in olive floss for rib. I use a stripped brown hackle quill. Either will work. Spiral thread foreward a little past the middle of the hook shank to tie in wings.

Clip a small clump of deer hair about the size of a match stick. Tie it in, then pull the hair upright and make a few turns of thread to hold it up.

Take a toothpick or dubbing needle and separate the hair forming two even wings.

While holding the wing closest to you, take your thread over the top of the hook diagonally to the back of the other wing.

Bring the thread under the hook then up and diagonally to the front of the wings.

Take one wrap of thread clockwise around the wing closest to you. The thread will be behind the wings now. Do the same thing to the other side and spiral the thread to tail of hook.

Now you are ready to form the body. If you prefer, use some wax on your thread. This will help the dubbing fur hold to the thread better.

Make a slightly tapered body leaving enough room to tie in the hackle.

Remember, it is always easier to add more dubbing fur than to take some off.

With the body formed you are now ready to make the rib with the floss or quill.

Make even wraps with the floss forming a rib. Tie it off and snip off excess.

The hackle is next. Pick out a feather off the neck that is the correct size for your hook. If it is too big it will not look as good.

Tie in the feather behind the wings and snip off the butt of the feather.

Wind the thread to the eye of the hook.,
