We first ran across these cool little boxes last year and while unique in look, were not sure they qualified for the HOT! awards.
However, we all need durable fly boxes and after sizing up all of the others, we feel the Auquafly box is the leader of the pack.
We’ve always found it amazing just how overpriced the hundreds of dopey little fly boxes on the market can be. And yet they never seem to be able to withstand the rigors of the day-to-day drops, bangs and soakings. Inevitably, one would find his or her flies soaked and rusted in the box, unless it was aired out after each day on the water. Even worse, deterioration would occur to …

We admit, it’s been a while since we had something to really write about. Since the fall, we’ve waded through many ho-hum new product introductions, until we decided it was finally time to begin writing about the few that we feel deserve the HOT! award.
Enjoy!
Chota CVX100 Deluxe wading Jacket.
Sounds technical and it really is. We love this Jacket because it addresses most of the major issues that waterproof gear is associated with. Functionality, cost and style.
STYLE - First, The Chota CVX100 Deluxe Wading Jacket(lets just call it the Chotalux for simplicity) is genuinely good looking! While the classic Filson oiled cotton jackets looked great on the river, the Chotalux looks as good landing a …

Orvis Claims that the Frequent Flier Rod series represents the most affordable, high-quality, high-performance travel rods on the market today. Frankly, we have to give them credit for it.
Less than 18″ collapsed, these 7 piece rods, are the travel rods you always wanted but couldn’t afford. Made to Orvis standards, featuring aluminum oxide guides and hard chrome tip top, anodized aluminum reel seats and AA grade cork and warrantee’s you’d expect from Orvis.
As with most multi-piece travel rods, you expect to give up more casting power and overall control with each additional section. And, yes there is some degradation of both, but not much in our opinion, and certainly not enough to make a difference …

One of the few truly significant advances we’ve seen in fly fishing in a while. The Recoil guides incorporate a hard but flexible “Shape Memory” nickel titanium alloy which won’t corrode, even in a saltwater environment, and will return to its original shape after repeated deformations. In other words, the former weakest link in a fly rod is no longer weak.
Bent, broken or corroded rod guides have always been a nightmare for fly anglers. The Recoil technology significantly improves the longevity of your rod life, great news for those who guide for a living or fish from boats and are constantly banging their rods.
But durability is only half the reason we awarded the Recoil Fly Rods Guides …

Our HOT PRODUCTS! award really should go to the chemical, permethrin, but apparently this effective insect repellent doesn’t work when applied to the skin like traditional insect repelents.
BUZZ OFF has found a way to embed Permethrin into pants, shorts, shirts and socks, currently available in apparel from both Orvis and Ex-Officio, providing an odorless, invisible insect barrier approved by the EPA. This kind of development exemplifies the qualities we look for when handing out FlyFish.com HOT PRODUCTS! awards.
While BUZZ OFF won’t make your fly land more softly on that crystal clear Vermont stream, it will make fly fishing just that much more enjoyable. Imagine…no bug spray odor or grease on your line or fly. And no more mosquito welts …

For all of the thousands of fly fishing products and services available to fly anglers, very few developments in the last decade have shown any real significant advancement in man’s quest to connect fly-to-fish more often. Or at least make time spent on the water significantly more enjoyable or affordable.
Since 1995, FlyFish.com has exposed itself to hundreds of high quality products in the search for such advancement. We have seen rods and reels made with intense craftsmanship and passion and flies tied with intricate detail and soul. We’ve also seen countless accessories - waders, clothes, packs, boats, canoes, staffs, tying benches - products designed by individuals and companies with a history of placing an absolute premium on producing high …

This Glass External Scrim series has taken the high end to new lows. In price that is. High quality components, combined with a durable and handsome blank give this rod series all of the ammunition it needs to compete with established high end competitors for stream and lake side bragging rights.
Fly anglers will enjoy not only the smooth, if not totally stiff, action of these rods and their ability to shoot lots of line accurately on par with rods costing twice the price. It appears as if Albright has finally given the fly angler an affordable, high quality rod without the usual compromises in material
The metallic look of the fused silicate (FS) is not only unique but offers a useful …
