Rio’s new fly line

November 24th, 2007

When casting a fly line, slickness is often the name of the game, with dirt, grime, sand and sunscreen all conspiring to slow down your line. Rio Products is hoping their new Extreme Slickness (XS) Technology will help offset these factors and keep your line flying through the guides when necessary.

The big difference with Rio’s new XT material is that the PVC coating is applied prior to curing, not after, so the “slickness factor” goes right down to the core and isn’t just a coating that can wear off or be rubbed off.

The new technology will be used in Rio’s full line of premier freshwater and saltwater lines.

Trout New Zealand

February 25th, 2007

Here at FlyFish.com Headquarters, we receive quite a few products to review, and are swamped with mail from every so called “Must see” fly fishing destination. Most are rustic shacks on overfished and overpriced streams or some impossible to get to place which 99% of the most hard core fly anglers will never be able to visit.

So when we recently received a box from New Zealand’s Intriped Angler, we assumed this was just another over hyped, low grade production. Wrong.

Intrepid Angler self describes their new New Book/DVD/CD “Destination TroutNew Zealand” as “A revolutionary multi-media concept for flyfishers and travellers alike that sets a new standard for the ultimate angling experience.”

And frankly, they are right on …

Thule Cast Away

July 12th, 2005

Well, we have to admit it. When we received the Thule Cast Away roof mounted rod carrier we weren’t thinking HOT! product winner. For starters, the official FlyFsh.com vehicle, a classic Toyota Land Cruiser, has had a Thule Flat Top Rack mount system for 7 years. Originally designed to carry Skis, we’d adopted it as a terrific fly rod carrier with two soft arms that gently clamp on to the rods and hold them secure in all types of off road turbulence.

Anyway, we stuck the Cast Away next to the ski rack. Installation was simple even with the tall roof. Merely a few twists of the hand screws and we were ready to roll in minutes.

The Cast Away’s unique …
